FOOD SOURCE AREA
Whether island or house bird, they have in common characteristic that will fly and feed from rich source of food on mainland. The birds usually fly 20km radius around nesting place to look for food and catch flying insect less than 30m away from the ground. If the birds live on the island, early in the morning they have to fly 10-15 km to mainland to find areas rich in food. The bird’s food consists mainly of flying insects such as brown backed hoppers, green leafhoppers, flaps, locusts, small dragonflies, etc., so birds will usually feed in areas as rice fields, fruit trees, and low forest. Based on the bird’s food, it can be seen that there is no competition with other species and the development of swiftlet bird will contribute to the protection of the crop, balance the ecological cycle. During breeding season, the bird's feeding area will be close to nest house, which will allow the bird to fly multiple times to feed the baby.
TIME SEEKING FOR FOOD
Depending on the season, it is possible to see the appearance of birds and feeding time in each certain areas is different. For birds that do not raise baby, they leave their nests for food from morning till evening to rest. When mating and breeding season, the bird occasionally come back at noon to nest. The pair that incubating will take turn to find food. The pair raising the baby will return to the nest multiple time, more or less depending on the growth phase of the baby (large birds require more food during day).
